| This is not really legal, as we meant it to be .. however it is definately something tht the team at PANIC have been asking for for at least 15 - 20 years, discussing it with anyone who will hear us, as has Graeme Axford, his hard work has brought the debate straight to the horses mouth, so to speak! The attached file links will take you to the petitions, which Graeme would like you to download, print and distribute amongst your friends and family. There is a discussion page in the forum, I think, however, Ive never seen a need for debating this, like Nike, JUST DO IT!!
We have received and considered Petition 2008/121 of Graeme Axford requesting that the
House of Representatives establish an independent complaints system for Child, Youth
and Family, separate from the Ministry of Social Development.
At present, when Child, Youth and Family receives a complaint, it is considered at the
site office to which it relates, but by a person who has not been directly involved in the
case. If the complaint is not resolved at this level it is referred to senior regional staff for
review and resolution. If the complainant is still not satisfied, he or she can ask for the
complaint to be reviewed by the Chief Executive’s Advisory Panel. The panel reviews
the complaint and makes recommendations to the chief executive. We were told that to
date every recommendation from the panel has been accepted. If the complainant does
not accept the panel’s view, he or she can complain to a number of external bodies: the
Ombudsman, the Children’s Commissioner, or the Social Workers Registration Board.
